About Us

Dunnes Workshop was started by Charles Dunne in 1903 pictured with his wife Annie on his wedding day in 1916.  He was a very innovative man using a steam engine to drive his sawmill, known as a journeyman/tradesman he also was a wheelwright – he made wheels and carts for the local farmers as seen here in this photograph.  This photograph taken in 1905 depicts Charles with Mr. Joe Lee building a turf shed.

This photograph taken in 1928 shows Charles and his young son Joe also in the picture was the original saw bench which is still being used in the museum today.
In 1942 Charles died tragically leaving his son Joe and Charles’s wife Annie to run the business with the help of Charles Harte, they worked diligently to keep the tradition going through very tough times.

In 1959 a new chapter in the history of Dunnes Workshop began when Joe married his young bride Anne.  Again times were very tough, Joe and Anne struggled to keep the business going in the 60’s but through hard work and determination they built the business up to a staff of over 40 in the 1980’s, it was then they were joined by their children Paul, Norah and Ian.  Today the five strong team have built a very successful manufacturing and producing a one stop shop for quality innovative bespoke joinery company specialising in windows, internal & external doors, stately stairs, kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.  Woodturning that is synonymous in nearly every house in the country.  In this picture you can see Joe Dunne himself holding a special carving panel for a front door.

One would wonder if Charles Dunne could come back today and see his acorn grown into a giant Oak tree.
